Captain van Driel was in command in the late 70’s and early 80’s. This photo was taken just before or on the maiden voyage of the Nieuw Amsterdam III in 1983

Capt. Freek van Driel was my mothers cousin ,
I admired him greatly, he was every inch a gentleman.
The stories he told us as we had a family diner or party I still remember !
How good to see his picture in/on your HAL-site !

I used to be best friends with his daughter Mies. I stumbled onto this page while looking for her on the internet. We are talking 43 years ago. If you have any info on the whereabouts of Mies, I would be grateful if you could email me. Also would love to read the biography of captain Van Driel when it is ready to be posted on the internet.
